Pulmogene-Predict lets pathologists explore molecular signals digitally in research and trial work without using additional tissue

OREM, UT, UNITED STATES, October 13, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The molecular profiling of lung cancer tumors has long been a bottleneck in pathology, often requiring separate tissue samples and lengthy sequencing runs. That workflow is now being challenged by a new integration between two digital pathology players, aiming to put predictive molecular insights directly into the hands of pathologists during routine slide review.

Techcyte, the developer of the Fusion enterprise digital pathology platform, has announced it is incorporating Pulmogene-Predict from Imagenomix into Fusion AP. Pulmogene-Predict is the lung cancer application within the Imagenomix IGX Predict platform. The collaboration kicks off with EGFR mutation prediction intended for research, translational, and clinical trial enrichment use, with plans to expand to other biomarkers such as KRAS, TP53, and additional targets down the line.

With this integration, pathologists can transmit routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) whole-slide images from a Fusion AP case to Imagenomix’s cloud-based system for analysis. The results are then delivered back into the Fusion case as a mutation score, a spatial heatmap that pinpoints where in the tissue the biomarker signal is most concentrated, and a PDF prediction report. Since Pulmogene-Predict operates on existing images, there is no need for extra stains or tissue sections, preserving scarce biopsy material for confirmatory testing.

The traditional lung cancer diagnostic journey often halts at the pathologist’s desk once the H&E is reviewed. Tissue is then sent out for sequencing—a process that is not only slow and expensive but also demands tissue that small biopsies may not have in surplus. Consequently, a significant number of patients never undergo molecular testing. Pulmogene-Predict aims to close that access gap by allowing pathologists to glimpse the tumor’s mutation profile from the H&E during their initial examination.

The tool supports a screen-then-confirm approach for research, and it can also be used to screen archived H&E slides to identify potential biomarker-positive cohorts. This capability supports trial enrichment and discovery initiatives without utilizing any additional tissue samples.

“Pathologists already have the H&E slide in front of them,” said Ben Cahoon, CEO of Techcyte. “With Pulmogene-Predict in Fusion AP, they can look at likely genotypes from that same slide for research and trial work, while also making the reflex NGS workflow more efficient.”

“We developed the IGX Predict product family to explore molecular information from the H&E slides labs already have, without consuming any tissue,” said Travis Wold, CEO at Imagenomix. “Working with Techcyte brings that capability into an established slide review workflow, starting with EGFR mutation prediction in lung cancer.”

Pulmogene-Predict is designated for research, translational, and trial-enrichment purposes only. It is not a clinical diagnostic and does not replace next-generation sequencing (NGS) or immunohistochemistry (IHC). Techcyte Fusion AP is for Research Use Only in the United States and is not intended for diagnostic use.

Attendees can see the integration in action at Pathology Visions, taking place October 16–18 in San Diego. The Techcyte team will be at Booth 410 to discuss how this collaboration will support molecular prediction research within Fusion AP.

Why it matters: This integration directly addresses a critical gap in lung cancer care—many patients never receive molecular testing due to tissue constraints or cost. By extracting predictive genetic signals from slides already in hand, this technology could democratize access to genomic insights, potentially accelerating research and trial enrollment without compromising diagnostic tissue.
