Techcyte and Aignostics launch AI-guided tumor selection for NGS prep

OREM, UT, UNITED STATES, October 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — When a molecular test fails, the culprit is often the tissue sample itself: not enough tumor cells made it into the extract. That is the problem Techcyte and Aignostics are now tackling head-on with a newly available workflow that brings AI directly into the slide-scraping process.

Techcyte, the developer behind Fusion, its enterprise digital pathology platform, has announced that AI-guided macrodissection for NGS preparation is now available on Techcyte Fusion® AP, powered by Aignostics‘ HETA Tumor Cellularity product. The integrated workflow is designed to help pathology teams zero in on tumor-rich regions, evaluate tumor cellularity, and guide tissue scraping for downstream molecular testing such as next-generation sequencing (NGS). HETA Tumor Cellularity is a component of Aignostics’ HETA Clinical product family.

Sequencing assays require a minimum proportion of tumor cells in the extracted sample, along with sufficient tissue for nucleic acid extraction. That means pathology teams must review every case for both criteria before a single slide is scraped. The collaboration between the two companies embeds HETA Tumor Cellularity into a workflow that links digital slide review, pathologist decision-making, and physical tissue collection into one connected process.

Within Fusion AP, pathologists can review a digital H&E slide with cell classification and tissue segmentation overlays generated by HETA Tumor Cellularity, which highlights candidate tumor-rich regions. From there, they can adjust tumor cellularity thresholds and refine scraping boundaries to match the specific requirements of the intended test. As those regions are modified, the system updates estimated tumor cellularity, scrapable surface area, tumor cell count, and total cell count in real time.

Once a pathologist confirms a region, a slide-sized view appears on the monitor, allowing a histotechnician to align the corresponding physical unstained slide with the selected boundaries and use those boundaries as a guide for scraping.

“Selecting tissue for sequencing involves both careful review and a clear handoff to the team preparing the sample,” said Vikram Pandian, Product Manager for Fusion AP at Techcyte. “Our collaboration with Aignostics brings their AI analysis into that process, helping pathologists evaluate the tissue and giving histotechnicians a visual guide for carrying out the selection.”

“Too many molecular tests fail or have to be repeated simply because the tissue selected doesn’t contain enough tumor,” said Adi Ravia, MD, VP of Product at Aignostics. “HETA Tumor Cellularity, part of our growing HETA Clinical product family, quantifies tumor content cell by cell and proposes a region for macrodissection, helping labs get it right the first time. We’re excited to bring this to pathology teams in Fusion AP through our collaboration with Techcyte.”

The macrodissection workflow will be showcased at Pathology Visions 2026, running Oct. 16–18 in San Diego, with Techcyte at booth 410 and Aignostics at booth 311.

Aignostics’ HETA Tumor Cellularity and Techcyte Fusion AP are for Research Use Only in the United States and are not for diagnostic use.

Why it matters: By reducing the guesswork in tissue selection, this collaboration targets a root cause of costly, time-consuming repeat molecular tests. If adopted widely, AI-guided macrodissection could become a standard step in pathology workflows, improving lab efficiency and the reliability of sequencing results for patients.
