BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA, July 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — During the 48th gathering of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan, Republic of Korea, the nominated site Jingdezhen Manual Porcelain Industry Heritage from China was formally added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. This most recent addition brings China’s total number of World Heritage Sites to 61.
Situated in Jingdezhen within Jiangxi Province, the heritage property consists of five principal elements: the urban porcelain manufacturing hub, the Hutian Ancient Kiln Site, the Gaoling porcelain clay extraction site, the Changling porcelain stone mining site, and the Jiaotan kiln fuel production area. Together they depict one of the globe’s most thorough and representative handmade porcelain production systems spanning the 10th through the 19th centuries, chronicling the extraordinary progression of China’s ceramic technology, artistic creativity, and industrial growth.
The UNESCO World Heritage Committee acknowledged that the site offers a genuine record of the evolution of China’s manual porcelain industry from the 10th to the 19th centuries. It also recognized the far-reaching impact of Chinese ceramic technology, artistic accomplishments, and production methods on the worldwide development of ceramics, while praising the integrity, authenticity, and sustained preservation efforts carried out by the Chinese government.
Since the 16th century, Jingdezhen has stood as a premier global center for handmade porcelain production. As the cradle of China’s celebrated porcelain tradition, its iconic blue-and-white ware represents the highest achievement of traditional Chinese craftsmanship and has long served as a lasting emblem of Chinese culture, contributing enduringly to cultural exchange and dialogue among civilizations.
China has placed significant emphasis on safeguarding Jingdezhen’s cultural heritage. Preservation initiatives have persisted for nearly fifty years, while the World Heritage nomination process extended over 11 years. This successful inscription not only fills a crucial void on the World Heritage List within the category of porcelain heritage but also underscores the worldwide importance of China’s traditional ceramic culture.
The Chinese government restated its dedication to fully implementing the World Heritage Convention by prioritizing conservation, reinforcing the systematic protection, research, interpretation, and sustainable utilization of the Jingdezhen Manual Porcelain Industry Heritage, and collaborating with the global community to protect humanity’s shared cultural legacy while fostering dialogue and mutual learning among civilizations.
