Following a ransomware incident that allowed an unauthorized party to breach a portion of its systems—including those tied to production—Coca-Cola’s Fairlife dairy division has ceased all manufacturing activities in the United States, the company stated Thursday.
The firm reported that it identified the breach and promptly enacted incident response and business continuity measures. Coca-Cola is collaborating with external advisors and cybersecurity specialists, and has also alerted law enforcement, according to the company. An investigation into the full scope and consequences of the attack remains ongoing.
Product integrity and safety remain uncompromised, the company assured. Fairlife’s Canadian production sites are unaffected at this time.
Coca-Cola revealed the event via a Form 8-K filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The corporation stated that it has yet to ascertain whether the incident will have a material impact on its financial standing.
Fairlife’s range of products encompasses ultra-filtered milk, protein shakes, and nutritional beverages distributed nationwide, as reported by BleepingComputer. Specific items in this lineup comprise Ultra-Filtered Milk, Core Power Protein Shakes, and Nutrition Plan.
Critical information remains under wraps, including whether attackers stole data, if a ransom was demanded, and which threat group orchestrated the breach, per BleepingComputer. No ransomware organization has taken credit for the attack.
Coca-Cola finalized its acquisition of Fairlife from Select Milk Producers in 2020 for roughly $7 billion, according to Bloomberg. By 2024, Fairlife had generated an estimated $4 billion in revenue, as noted by TechCrunch.
Coca-Cola’s share price fell 1.1% during after-hours trading on Thursday.
