This collaboration allows engineering teams to automatically create software tests from requirements and execute them across the entire vehicle development lifecycle.
This integration tackles a mounting problem for automotive and manufacturing firms: the volume of software requiring testing is expanding quickly, yet testing continues to rely heavily on manual engineering effort.
A contemporary vehicle may house up to 150 electronic control units (ECUs), with thousands of software components operating across them. Testing for a single control unit can involve tens of thousands of test cases. Across the automotive sector, verification and validation can consume 30% to 50% of software development work.
Hyperpilot aims to cut down on the manual labor needed to create and maintain these tests. Hyperpilot Studio takes engineering requirements and automatically produces complete, runnable test suites. Engineers do not need to write each test case by hand or use a chatbot to generate test scripts one by one.
Thanks to the new dSPACE integration, the tests generated by Hyperpilot can be exported as native executables for the dSPACE Test Automation SDK. These tests can then be used across Software-in-the-Loop (SiL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL), and Vehicle-in-the-Loop (ViL) environments.
This setup lets engineering teams apply the same test logic throughout various development phases, rather than creating and maintaining separate test scripts for each environment.

Conventional testing demands that engineers manually develop test cases, update them when requirements shift, and adapt them for different environments. This can introduce delays and extra work throughout the development process.
Hyperpilot Studio can produce hundreds of tests per minute for individual software units and thousands of tests per minute when multiple units are handled in parallel. Hyperpilot states that a complete, traceable test suite for a control unit can be generated within minutes.
When a requirement changes, affected tests can also be regenerated, helping to keep requirements, software, and tests in sync.
This technology is built to support engineers rather than supplant them. Rather than spending time writing and maintaining test scripts, engineers can concentrate on reviewing test coverage, evaluating edge cases, and approving results.
dSPACE’s Test Automation SDK allows development and validation teams to create automated tests in Python and run them across Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop environments. The same test logic can be reused across different environments, with configuration changes determining where the tests execute.
Hyperpilot and dSPACE are currently onboarding a limited selection of vehicle manufacturers and automotive suppliers for joint pilot initiatives.
