The Fields Medals will be presented during the livestreamed opening ceremony of the International Congress of Mathematicians. A press conference will follow.
On July 23, the recipients of the highly regarded Fields Medal will be revealed at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Philadelphia. Awarded once every four years, the Fields Medal is frequently referred to as the Nobel Prize equivalent in mathematics.
The official announcement of the winners will take place during the ICM’s opening ceremony, scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon EDT on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Following the ceremony, a press conference and media availability session with the medalists will be held from shortly after noon until 1:30 p.m. EDT.
Both the opening ceremony and the press conference will be streamed live on the Simons Foundation YouTube channel.
Taking place every four years, the ICM features the unveiling of mathematics’ premier awards—such as the Fields Medals, the Abacus Medal, and the Chern Medal—alongside presentations from top mathematicians about groundbreaking advances in the field. A lineup of complimentary public events will offer the general public a chance to engage with the elegance and widespread relevance of mathematics.

This year’s ICM arrives at a crucial juncture for mathematics, with artificial intelligence and proof verification tools like Lean driving the most significant transformations in mathematical practice in thousands of years. Renowned mathematician and Fields Medalist Terence Tao will deliver a public address on this subject, reflecting on the very essence of why mathematics is pursued.
