The machinery generates large, full-scale prototypes of treads, tracks, wheels, castings, housings, and other parts, delivering a degree of realism that was once extremely challenging to achieve within the off-the-road sector.

Leveraging state-of-the-art large-format 3D printing, OTR can now produce full-scale prototypes of fresh product concepts in a matter of weeks, as opposed to months.
OTR3DLab provides customers with something they have never truly possessed in the off-the-road industry: the chance to physically interact with a full-scale design before committing to substantial tooling expenditures”— Patrick Sexton, Global Vice President of Engineering and InnovationROME, GA, UNITED STATES, September 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — OTR Engineered Solutions, a worldwide frontrunner in off-the-road tire, wheel, and track systems, has launched OTR3DLab™, an unprecedented prototyping offering designed to significantly cut product development cycle times.
For many years, turning a new off-the-road tire, wheel, track, or associated component concept into reality has demanded a sizable investment in tooling, extended lead periods, and limited chances for full-scale visual inspection before production commitments. OTR3DLab streamlines this procedure, minimizing risk.
By employing cutting-edge, large-scale 3D printing technology, OTR can now create full-scale physical prototypes of novel product ideas within just a few weeks—rather than months—enabling clients to evaluate vehicle aesthetics, fit, proportions, clearance, and overall design direction prior to committing to pricey production tooling.
“OTR3Lab offers customers something they have never truly had before in the off-the-road market: the ability to physically experience a full-scale concept before making major tooling decisions,” stated Patrick Sexton, Global Vice President of Engineering and Innovation at OTR Engineered Solutions. “Instead of depending solely on drawings, renderings, or small-scale models, customers can now see the product, touch it, and inspect it on actual equipment. This empowers them to make faster decisions with less risk.”
The OTR3DLab offering supports more than 1,000 printable materials, including flexible, rubber-like elastomers that closely replicate the appearance and sensation of a real production tire. The equipment can manufacture prototypes up to one cubic meter, or roughly 35 cubic feet, allowing clients to receive large, full-scale concepts of treads, tracks, wheels, castings, housings, and other parts with a realism standard that was previously hard to attain in the off-the-road industry.
Printed full-scale physical tire prototypes can be mounted directly onto standard steel or aluminum rims using conventional tire installation equipment. This enables clients to examine assemblies in a more authentic format and, in certain instances, place them directly on machinery for visual evaluation, packaging studies, and final design verification.
This new service also enhances OTR’s TreadIQ™, an AI-driven tire design platform used to quickly create custom off-the-road tread concepts for OEMs and distributors. With TreadIQ, OTR engineers can incorporate client preferences regarding tread style, performance characteristics, application needs, and visual direction. Combined with engineering knowledge, the system aids in producing functional tire concepts at remarkable speed. Once the concept is developed by TreadIQ, OTR3DLab brings it to life.
“Pairing AI-powered tire design with full-scale 3D prototype production gives OTR customers a quicker, more engaging, and more visual innovation journey,” said Oscar Torres, OTR’s President and CEO. “It enables us to progress from idea to concept to physical review much faster than conventional development methods. That speed can be a significant benefit for customers aiming to introduce new products, refresh existing platforms, or distinguish themselves in competitive markets. Ultimately, it’s another way we’re simplifying customers’ lives.”
