Outfame data shows 86% of Instagram accounts grow in first month, with biggest gains early

If you’re trying to grow an Instagram account, the first month may be the most critical window for success. New data from Outfame, an AI-powered growth service, suggests that early momentum can account for the lion’s share of long-term gains. Daily follower readings of Outfame customer accounts show 86 percent grew in their first month, with results broken down by account size and niche.

The first month does most of the work: the typical account in our data had made 62 percent of its 90-day growth by day 30.”— Outfame Team, OutfameLOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, November 6, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Outfame, a Los Angeles-based AI-powered growth service for Instagram and TikTok accounts, has released Instagram Growth Statistics 2026, a study built entirely from its own customer data. The research tracked 981 customer accounts at the 30-day mark and found that the median Instagram account gained 346 followers in its first 30 days on the service — a 15.8 percent increase from its starting count. Notably, 86 percent of those accounts saw follower growth.

The data comes from daily follower-count snapshots. Outfame records the public follower count of each customer account once per day while the account is on an active paid plan, starting from the day growth begins. The analysis draws on 164,963 daily readings from 7,271 Instagram accounts that started between Feb. 1 and May 31, 2026, and were tracked through Oct. 29, 2026.

Growth arrived quickly for most users. Among accounts that grew over a 90-day period, the typical account had already achieved 62 percent of its total 90-day gain by day 30, based on 264 such accounts. Looking at all 340 accounts measured at both day 30 and day 90, 78 percent of the combined 90-day net gain came in the first 30 days. The median gain rose to 483 followers at day 60, across 577 accounts, and to 533 followers at day 90, across 417 accounts.

Results varied considerably around the median. The middle half of accounts gained between 73 and 549 followers in the first 30 days, highlighting a wide range of outcomes.

Starting account size had a bigger impact on percentage growth than on raw follower numbers. Accounts that started with fewer than 1,000 followers gained a median of 341 followers in 30 days — a 69.4 percent increase — and 94 percent of them grew. Accounts with 1,000 to 9,999 followers gained a median of 359 followers, or 12.5 percent, with 90 percent growing. Those with 10,000 to 99,999 followers gained a median of 288, roughly 1 percent of their starting count, and 70 percent grew. Accounts above 100,000 followers were excluded because too few were measured.

Travel accounts led the nine niches analyzed, posting the highest median first-30-day gain at 379 followers across 138 accounts. Health and wellness followed at 361, fitness at 346, food at 341, music at 324, and fashion at 310. Beauty accounts gained a median of 205, art at 187, and business at 130. Each niche represents the main interest Outfame’s AI assigned based on the account’s public profile and posts; niches with fewer than 40 measured accounts are not shown.

The study places these customer figures alongside numbers Instagram and Meta have published. Instagram reached 3 billion monthly active users in September 2025, according to TechCrunch. In April 2026, Instagram said that 75 percent of its recommendations in the U.S. now come from original posts. Meta’s apps averaged 3.64 billion daily active people in September 2026, according to the company’s third-quarter results.

Gain at day 30, 60, or 90 is defined as the reading closest to that day (within three days) minus the first reading, and only accounts still on a plan that day are counted. Medians are used so that a few very large accounts do not distort the results. The study excludes 394 accounts whose count jumped above five times or fell below one-fifth of the starting count, usually after a username change or a failed reading.

“The first month does most of the work: the typical account in our data had made 62 percent of its 90-day growth by day 30,” the Outfame team said. “The size and niche tables show what that first month looks like for accounts like yours.”
