Did employers clearly state that artificial intelligence assessed your job application?

Fresh research indicates that 50% of people searching for jobs encounter rejections without any explanation, while more than 80% face a complete absence of AI disclosure, eroding confidence in the hiring process.
“When half of all job seekers are rejected without human contact, and over 80% have no idea if a person or an algorithm read their resume, trust in the hiring system breaks down completely.”— Volen Vulkov, Co-Founder of EnhancvNEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, July 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — A report from Enhancv, a worldwide frontrunner in AI-powered career solutions, uncovers a deep credibility gap on the candidate side of contemporary recruitment technology. Based on a survey of 1,066 U.S. job seekers, automated hiring tools are leaving applicants uninformed—50.5% of individuals have received at least one job rejection over the past year with no comment or input from a human recruiter.
The results reveal a major disconnect between corporate automation and applicant confidence. As companies deploy artificial intelligence to manage growing volumes of applications, candidates are increasingly forced to speculate whether a person or a system evaluated their professional credentials.
How Automated Recruitment Systems Shape Candidate Views
Among those who received no human feedback after a rejection, 63.8% believe a machine made the final decision instead of a hiring manager.
A large segment of applicants operates without fundamental openness, with 68.5% reporting that AI participation was never revealed to them throughout the application process.
One-way AI video screenings and chatbot filters are pushing skilled talent away, as 31.4% of job seekers have either walked away from an application or turned down an interview specifically to bypass automated screening tools.
Concerns about algorithmic bias are widespread across the workforce—47.7% of candidates agree that AI hiring tools show prejudice based on their age, race, gender, or background.
Bias perceptions are even stronger among neurodivergent job seekers, with 53.4% reporting that automated systems create unfair obstacles to employment.
The Erosion of Hiring Transparency
The study identifies a critical flaw in current recruitment processes. Fewer than 10% of surveyed job seekers (9.7%) were explicitly told that an AI system was reviewing their application. When combined with those who were unsure, nearly 85% of applicants remain completely in the dark about how their resumes are evaluated.
“When half of all job seekers are rejected without human contact, and over 80% have no idea if a person or an algorithm read their resume, trust in the hiring system breaks down completely,” said Volen Vulkov, co-founder of Enhancv. “AI was meant to streamline recruitment, but without disclosure and clear communication, it has created a black hole that turns qualified candidates away.”
Candidate Workarounds and Abandoned Applications
The research reveals that friction from automated barriers is driving workers—especially younger and entry-to-mid-level applicants—to abandon opportunities entirely.
AI screening friction significantly impacts roles paying under six figures: 79.1% of all abandoned applications were for positions offering less than $100,000 annually.
Candidates are increasingly using AI to even the odds—49.6% employ artificial intelligence tools to improve their performance in automated interviews and screening software.
About the Study
This study is based on a survey of 1,066 U.S. job seekers conducted by Enhancv in April 2026. The sample includes entry-level workers, mid-level managers, freelancers, and senior executives across various industries. The survey measured silent rejections, AI disclosure rates, candidate drop-off behaviors, and perceptions of bias in automated hiring.
