Video tape is the medium the company works with most frequently, and it has converted hundreds of thousands of hours of footage since its inception. With working VCRs now scarce in most households, the company notes that the most common question it receives is no longer about whether to digitise a collection, but rather what format the final recordings should be delivered in.
DVD remains the obvious option for those who wish to view content on a television. Tapes are burned onto discs that play in standard DVD players, gaming consoles, in-car head units, and computer drives, with titles added to help viewers navigate the material. A single disc set contains an entire order, and the process typically takes about seven days from the moment the tapes arrive.
USB operates differently. Every video from an order is placed onto one memory stick as standard computer files, ready to open on a laptop, smart TV, tablet, or phone, and simple to copy or back up without needing any specialised software. The company says this is why an increasing number of customers now request a memory stick instead of a disc.
Cloud backup stores the completed files online behind a private access link, enabling viewing or downloading from any location. Access lasts for one year and can be extended, which the company says suits families who want to share footage among themselves.
Approximately 95 per cent of tapes yield good picture quality, and over 99 per cent are transferred successfully regardless of the condition they arrive in.
All VHS to digital conversion is performed at the company's North Yorkshire facility, and original tapes are returned together with the new files.
